“If you want to be irreplaceable be unique, not different”

One day a man named Sam went to an STD booth to make a call. There he pleaded endlessly to the owner of a company for the job of an accountant over the call. He said, “Sir I beg you, I’m badly in need of a job and I’m ready to work at half the cost of your current accountant.”

The owner replied, “See I get your point however we do not have any vacancy for the post of an accountant, we’ve got other posts, you may try there.”

“But sir I’m looking for the post of an accountant.”

“Sorry I can’t help. We already have an accountant. You may try for other profiles.”

The owner hung up.

This conversation was loud enough to be heard by the booth owner. After Sam finished his call and was about to leave, the booth owner couldn’t help himself from asking  Sam, “ What’s the matter? If you’re desperately in need of a job then I wish to offer you the post of accountant in my booth.”

“Thanks Sir but there’s nothing to worry about. I already have a job and the man over the phone was my boss. I was just testing my performance.”

“What do you mean?”

“Simple, I just wanted to know if my boss is really satisfied with my work. Now I feel relieved that he is truly happy with my work and I’m irreplaceable.”

What is your definition of being irreplaceable?

When an employee is consistent, sincere and loyal and he has unique methods of implementing his work, this makes him unique hence irreplaceable but uniqueness is much more than just this, its more about your unique selling proposition.
